David Bigelow – Simplified Logic

Whether you’re an individual marketing Flex/AIR Components to the community or a business developing commercial or enterprise Applications, the core business model you choose and operate under can have a dramatic impact on your success and longevity.  In this session a discussion of various business models will be presented (e.g. Retail, License/Maintenance and Software as a Service) and compared/contrasted for the overhead, liabilities and procedural issues of each business model.  Several case studies will also be presented outlining how simple changes in approach or a full transformation from one business model to another affected the business, customers and end users. As a bonus, a discussion of how licensing can and should be used to facilitate and control the business processes – keeping your revenue stream understood and in control.  This session will be valuable for developers looking to start a business selling their goods/services or for established businesses looking to migrate from conventional to service models.

The promise of rich Internet applications is alluring, but like the Sirens of past it is imperative to avoid the rocky shores that surround them.  Many efforts fall short of expectations, deadlines, and budget.  Like other IT projects, they fail because of poor planning, management, and expectations.
